Memorandum To Mr. Kofi Annan Secretary General UNO-New York(USA)
Excellency, I am writing to you on behalf of J&K People’s League-the freedom fighting organization of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Today the people of J&K are observing 27 Oct, as the black day, protest day, mourning day, and occupation day throughout the state of J&K and around the globe to press their historical demand for freedom and right of self-determination in accordance with the wishes of the people of J&K, as laid down in numerous UNSC resolutions on Kashmir. No doubt, the UNSC files (now under dust) recognize and support our right of self-determination but ironically, Kashmiris continue to suffer as a neglected people and suppressed nation, whose human blood spilling in abundance has not, moved the conscience of the big states or UNO, who have launched international war against terrorism in the mountains and over the skies of Afghanistan. War against terrorism is a significant and historical slogan when sanctioned by the world body. But, the same slogan looses its efficacy, when it’s other dimensions and the monster of state terrorism against weaker freedom loving people is not addressed at all. The ongoing war against stateless terrorism will never bring peace to humanity, if the UNO and USA select back seat for age-old political disputes-particularly the 54 years old imbroglio of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir dispute is an international dispute-unresolved as India is not willing to fulfill her pledge of a free and impartial plebiscite by flouting UN resolutions, trampling down basic human rights and sponsoring horrendous state terrorism against Kashmiris in Kashmir. The present US led war in Afghanistan has given India yet another pretext to roast Kashmiris in her furnace of anger, retaliation and hate to suppress the 20th century liberation movement in Kashmir, which is never terrorism. We are compelled to say that the UN has now virtually left Kashmiris alone to face every type of abuse and humiliation by Indian forces in Kashmir. India has jeopardized the world peace more then any other factor. Excellency-- on this day of 27 October, when the people of Kashmir are expressing their anger against Indian occupation of Kashmir, we would like to urge on you to pay greater attention to Kashmir dispute, the present war hysteria in India and remove the basic irritant in Indo Pak relations, revive efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute according to the resolutions of Security Council and urges and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who are offering unprecedented human sacrifices for their birth right- the right of self determination, and they will not withdraw the decade old just struggle of freedom for their homeland and coming generations of their prideful nation. Thank You. Presented BYMuhammad Farooq Rehmani Chairman J&K People’s League Dated 27/10/2001
