POST PARTITION DEVELOPMENT

Here we should not overlook the root cause of the conflict and respective claims by India and Pakistan on Kashmir. India hatched a secret deal with Maharaja Hari Singh and also with Sheikh Abdullah and Indian armed forces flew to Srinagar while the throne lay vacant. When the Indian army Occupied Srinagar, many parts in the state had already fallen to the freedom fighters and AJ&K Govt. founded on Oct. 1947. And yet India accepted the accession of the fugitive ruler.

In the beginning, India claimed that she sent her troops to Kashmir on the request of Maharaja with the approval of Sheikh Abdullah, in order to help the state to drive out raiders from the soil of Kashmir, but India also claimed that she saw a ray of secularism in Kashmir and thus linked safety of Indian Muslims with the accession of Kashmir to India . Now India claims that Kashmir is important for her territorial integrity and national solidarity. In other words the fabric of country's unity and sovereignty is so weak that if the people of Kashmir are given their right of self-determination, India will dismember, Muslims will be wiped out and secularism will be buried for good. All such talk is fallacious, and ridiculous pretext and runs contrary to the charter of UNO and the Indian constitution. Under both these documents, the Indian Govt. is responsible for life, honour and property of her citizens irrespective of their caste, creed and language. No people can be kept hostages or under bondage against moral, political and international legal dictums of the present day human societies and civilization. India annexed Kashmir without any rightful cause and fabricated the so-called document of accession against the wishes of the People of J&K. Geography and religion, the most important factors of linkage are absent between India and Kashmir. It is the absence of these vital elements plus the conflict between their sentiments and aspirations that India is facing the popular uprising in the Valley of Kashmir which champions the cause of freedom for other parts of the occupied region. Still India is rudely adamant to keep Kashmir under her jackboots.

On the contrary Pakistan has a positive cause to offer and people of Kashmir have on several occasions made distinction between Kashmir and Pakistan. The people of Pakistan and Kashmir are linked by common frontiers, and their religion is Islam. The people of Pakistan have always supported and are supporting the right of self-determination and plebiscite under the supervision of U.N.O. They have fought / are fighting against occupation forces shoulder to shoulder voluntarily with Kashmiries.

In the post partition days Indian national Congress had influential supporter in Kashmir in the person of Abdullah. After the annexation of Kashmir by Indian forces, India went in search of tame cats, and installed puppet politicians on Kashmir for continuing her illegal and cruel occupation of the state.

After the horrible massacre of Muslims and rape of their women in Jammu in Nov.1947, the Province virtually came under the cruel grip of Hindu Chaunists and fanatics, who carried their campaign of merger of Jammu with Himachal Pradesh. In Ladakh a similar campaign is going on with the perfect connivance of Delhi leaders to dilute the over all struggle for the right of self determination by Kashmiris. They say that Ladakh be given under the control of Delhi. This is how India after becoming certain of her defeat in Kashmir is sowing seeds of communal hatred and regional bias among Buddhists as well.

When we cast a look on Jammu and Kashmir state particularly the Kashmir province of pre-partition days, we find close economical and social ties between Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and NWFP of Pakistan.

In 1947 the people of Kashmir were more eager to join Pakistan and see fulfillment of their dream of a prosperous Islamic state on the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The people of Kashmir had access to Central Asian region in the bygone days. The occupation of Kashmir by India Severed ties between different parts of our unfortunate state. The occupied Kashmir lost its ties with the central Asia, which had already gone in the ferocious grip of communist Russia. The new scenario of Kashmir gave birth to conflicting ideas and mores and a new class of politicians emerged with petty self-interest using big slogans without national goal. The mores of politicians in both sides of the state have badly told upon the smooth development of morality in our societies. The peoples of the two separated parts greatly yearn for mutual co-operation but at the same time, they face strange mental and social pressures and economic disparity on both sides. While Muslims of the occupied side face genocide and torture by occupation troops, our brothers on the liberated side look confused, and their leaders add to this confusion. The feudal, bureaucratic and sectarian ways of Pakistani polity during the last 35 years have nourished mental doubts and misgivings between different races and communities in the country. The best standards of the modern education still remain a prerogative of "elite's and have not stepped in the houses of common and poor Pakistanis. All these things have affected polity and society of Azad Kashmir also.

On the contrary Jammu came socially and economically closer to the neighboring state of India and Hindu Chaunism and fanaticism penetrated deep into the area under the cover of secularism and national integration . After the Jammu holocaust of 1947 the Muslims found themselves at the mercy of Congress and National conference and at every time lived an insecure and horrible life under the sword of Indian occupation forces. The 1965 episode brought about more tragedies and horrors for Muslims needless to say that the Jammu Muslims had already lost their identity as a political force after 1947. However, some Muslim areas of the Jammu Province like district Doda, which linguistically and culturally are contiguous to the valley, continued to walk shoulder to shoulder with the peoples movement for freedom of Jammu and Kashmir. They were not led astray by the vicious anti-freedom tirade of India and Indian communalists. They dispelled all fears regarding logistic and numerical obstacles in the way of freedom movement. In this region Muslim youth is as serious sensitive and determined to gain freedom from India as the people of the Kashmir province. Musalmans of these areas fully backed the plebiscite movement in 50's and 60's but 1965 backlash and 1966,1972 and 1974 accords on the one hand between India &Pak and on the other side between Mrs. Gandhi and Abdullah disillusioned them like their brothers in the valley.
